Our joint owned mining services company Thiess is committed to leading in sustainable, responsible mining, and contributing to a low carbon future by working with clients, suppliers and industry to help enable the global energy transition.
To deliver on its commitments, Thiess has pledged to rebalance its thermal coal portfolio to no more than 25 per cent of revenue by the end of 2027. It will do this by targeting the growing demand for commodities that underpin the green energy and renewable sector like copper, nickel, zinc and lithium.
For more than 30 years, Thiess has consistently delivered mine rehabilitation, completing more than 10,000 hectares of rehabilitation across diverse environments in Australia and Indonesia.
In 2022, as a key part of its service diversification strategy, Thiess launched a new standalone rehabilitation service – Thiess Rehabilitation. The new business covers the full lifecycle of mine rehabilitation services, from design to development to delivery.
This includes helping clients achieve superior end land use results, including alternative end land use solutions, that deliver positive environmental, social and governance outcomes.
Thiess has been appointed mining services provider for the Iron Bridge Project in Western Australia. Under the initial three-year contract, Thiess will deliver mining and maintenance services and asset management services. The project will deliver high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product in the Pilbara.
Thiess has been awarded a four-year contract by Covalent Lithium to deliver mining services at the Mount Holland Lithium Mine in Western Australia.
This three-year contract will see Thiess firstly assist to develop the mine, and then undertake mining operations at this new copper project in the Mt Isa region.
CIMIC Group’s minerals processing company, Sedgman developed the innovative SEDGMETRIX Platform. The SEDGMETRIX Platform is an Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem of tools designed to connect people to their operation and provide a higher level of transparency on operational performance. By uploading site data into the cloud, it is used to remotely monitor and help optimise the performance of any operation or asset.
CIMIC Group’s mineral processing company Sedgman has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to deliver services for Artemis Gold at the Blackwater Gold project in British Columbia, Canada. Sedgman will design and construct the processing and non-processing infrastructure for a six million tonne per annum carbon in leach gold plant at the project.
