Senakin Coal Mine
Thiess Indonesia secured the long-term operational contract for the Senakin Coal Mine in South Kalimantan in 2000 with mine owners Arutmin. The alliance was further extended in 2003 for the life of the mine.
As the sole contractor operating on site, Thiess Indonesia provides total-mine solutions from mine and waste planning, clearing, overburden removal, coal crushing and washing right through to site environmental rehabilitation.
The scope of Thiess Indonesia’s works also include operation and maintenance of two washplants to process run of mine (ROM) coals, plus transport of product to two river ports and loading of barges.
Thiess Indonesia’s current annual coal production on site is 5MT per annum from 50 million bank cubic metres (BCM) of overburden. The total workforce, including administration, mining operations and maintenance personnel, is more than 1000. A further 600 subcontract personnel are also engaged on site.
