Utah Point Iron Ore Conveyor
Sedgman was selected by Atlas Iron to provide front end engineering design (FEED) for iron ore materials handling for the Utah Point Expansion Overland Conveyor Project.
Working collaboratively with Atlas from the start of design definition ensured a well-developed common understanding of project requirements and provided an opportunity for value engineering and options review. Atlas’s requirements were captured in the design definition phase and transferred efficiently to the development of drawings, specifications and procurement data to maintain the project schedule.
SCOPE OF WORKS
Recognising that overland conveyor design required a specialist skill set and expert level of understanding of materials handling design, Sedgman devoted our strongest in-house iron ore material handling engineers to the task.
During the FEED, Sedgman undertook preliminary designs suitable to achieve ±30% capital cost estimate. The initial focus in collaboration with Atlas was on design definition and value engineering and this included an evaluation of all Atlas-supplied existing information and a site visit to review conditions and proposed plant layout. Most key technical decisions and concept settings were made in consultation with Atlas’ project team during the FEED and as the safety in the design process was progressed.
OUTCOMES
Our commitment to safety in design also supported Atlas’s requirement on all its mine sites achieving the highest long-term level of safety performance to ensure long-term security of all personnel.
