Twin Pines Project
Sedgman was initially engaged to complete a definitive feasibility study the provided the business case for the Twin Pines Mine (TPM) mineral sands wet concentrator plant. Sedgman’s proposed solution was to use a relocatable modular mineral sands wet concentrator plant with a separate dry plant that is able to be relocated during the life of mine to reduce future mining haulage costs.
A feasibility study was followed by a front-end engineering design (FEED) phase of work which included an advanced metallurgical test work program that was able to confirm the use of modern processing technologies to extract the final minerals
The mineral separation plant processes heavy mineral concentrate from the wet concentrator plant. The layout of the facilities includes provisions for further expanding the plant capacity beyond its nominal design capacity for future upgrades.
The base case facility was designed to process up to 250 t/h of heavy mineral sands feed from the existing low grade tailings deposit and produce a concentrate of zircon and ilmenite ready for downstream mineral separation and future processing. Sedgman’s scope of work included engineering design, procurement, fabrication and delivery of the mineral sands modular plant and associated infrastructure, as well as construction management and final commissioning and performance technical support.
