Seabee Gold Gravity Upgrade

Sedgman was awarded the design and commissioning to assist the gravity gold recovery circuit upgrade at the Seabee gold operation.

The Seabee gold operation is located in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately 125 kilometres northeast of the town of La Ronge. The client’s requested assistance with improving the gold recovery from its two underground gold mines, the Santoy mine and the Seabee mine.

The focus of the upgrade was to target additional gold recovery in a new circuit consisting of the following key process equipment:

• One gravity oversize protection screen 
• Two Knelson concentrators 
• One Acacia intensive leach reactor
• One electrowinning (EW) cell.

The contracted engineering, procurement and construction assistance scope of work consisted of civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical design work for additions to the facility which was modelled in 3D to check all layout, operability and clash checks with the site operating teams.

To reduce interference from the upgrade in an operating plant, the design of the new gold recovery circuit was based on a bolt together standalone independent structure, including pipework and platework that was able to be fabricated offsite. The structure was trial assembled with match marking, and shipped on winter ice roads for assembly by a small workforce onsite. The results minimised interruption to the gold plant operations and onsite construction assembly time.
