CPB Contractors, in an Alliance and sub-Alliance, has been appointed to deliver the Tram Grade Separation Projects together with the South Australian Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
The scope of work for the Tram Grade Separation Projects includes:
- Removal of three level crossings where the Glenelg tram line crosses Marion Road and Cross Road, Plympton and Morphett Road, Morphettville.
- Rebuilding the South Road Tram Overpass at Glandore to accommodate the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) lowered motorway.
- Delivering a new tram overpass over Marion Road and Cross Road, Plympton and Morphett Road, Morphettville.
- Upgrades to the intersections at Marion Road and Anzac Highway and Cross Road and Marion Road, Morphett Road and Anzac Highway, further improving the flow of traffic, easing congestion and improving travel times and safety.
Removing these level crossings will:
- reduce traffic congestion, and make journeys safer and more reliable for everyone
- improve safety for local residents, motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and tram drivers
- provide new, safer and more accessible tram stops with improved pedestrian access
- create smoother and safer trips for all
- elevate the Mike Turtur Bikeway as a Shared Use Path alongside the tram line
- create new open spaces for people to get together
