We believe that building an inclusive workplace at UGL starts with understanding and respect.
As part of our commitment to reconciliation and cultural awareness, the UGL senior leadership team in Western Australia recently participated in a cultural immersion session hosted by Kambarang Services at Bibra Lake in Perth.
This powerful experience gave our leaders the opportunity to deepen their appreciation of Noongar culture and traditions, fostering empathy, strengthening relationships, and supporting our vision for a culturally safe and inclusive workplace.
The session featured memorable highlights including a bushwalk through the wetlands, interactive demonstrations like traditional fire-making, spear-throwing, and tool-making, with engaging presenters who had deep cultural knowledge and storytelling skills.
Attendees gained valuable insights into Noongar history, traditions, and connection to land, making the day both educational and transformative.
Reflecting on the experience, UGL's Krzysztof Okraj shared:
“I found it interesting to hear about the daily life of Nyungar people living in the Bibra Lake region, both before and after being urbanised. I also enjoyed the traditional meals prepared by the Nyungar elders.”
This experience reflects UGL’s ongoing commitment to our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan, fostering respect, inclusion, and stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
