More than 150 Indigenous engagement initiatives since 2022 have established life‑changing career pathways for First Nations students across Australia.
At UGL, our commitment to meaningful Indigenous participation is creating opportunities that genuinely enhance lives, careers and communities. Through long‑term partnerships with Clontarf Foundation, NASCA, and the New South Wales Indigenous Chamber of Commerce (NSWICC), we are helping build strong, lasting pathways into the workforce for the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent.

UGL has supported seven Clontarf students into employment opportunities nationally. Their progress through multiple stages of learning, upskilling and career development highlights the lasting impact of early engagement.
Success stories
Denzel Thorne: Student to Indigenous engagement leader
Denzel joined UGL through a Clontarf work experience placement and progressed into our undergraduate program. Today he is a valued Aboriginal Engagement Advisor for UGL’s resources and energy west and corporate teams in Western Australia.
Brandon Houghton: Apprentice to qualified tradesperson
After completing work experience with UGL, Brandon stepped into an apprenticeship role. He is now a fully qualified electrical tradesperson within our rail and transport systems team.
Bronte Gibson: School-based trainee to community relations officer
Bronte began as an administration trainee on the Regional Rail project. She now works as a Community Relations Officer with UGL Regional Linx, supporting regional communities and stakeholder relationships.

Saffon Butler: University intern to graduate professional
Starting as an undergraduate student, Saffon joined UGL’s graduate program, relocating from Sydney to Brisbane. She is now contributing to our rapidly expanding new energy business, supporting innovation in Australia’s energy transition.
