For the third year running, UGL’s Logistic Engineering Services (LES) proudly took to the pavements in March to simulate walking the Kokoda Trail, raising vital funds and awareness for veteran mental health and suicide prevention. This initiative is part of the annual March On challenge, supporting Soldier On, an organisation dedicated to helping Australian Defence veterans and their families.
At the heart of this effort is Warren Smith, LES General Manager and a veteran himself. Warren’s passion for this cause is deeply personal. “I’ve seen firsthand the emotional toll that operational service can take on our people,” he shared. “Suicide affects not just individuals, but entire families and communities. This walk is one way we can show veterans that they are not alone and that we stand with them.”
This year, the incredible UGL teams at LES and Defence fuels walked a combined total of 3,705 kilometres, a testament to their dedication and drive. Their efforts also raised an outstanding $31,918 for Soldier On, helping to fund vital mental health services, career support, and social connection programs for those who have served.
UGL is committed to supporting veterans, both through community initiatives and through long-term employment opportunities. Today, UGL is proud to have more than 230 veterans among its workforce.
Through our veteran’s network, UGL provides a space where current and former service members can connect, share experiences, and help shape an inclusive workplace that values their unique skills and perspectives.
“Supporting our people both inside and outside of work is part of who we are,” says Warren. “These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to those who’ve served.”
Together, we continue to build a stronger, more connected community.
