UGL maintains a fleet of more than 700 vehicles, over 85% of which are light commercial utility vehicles.
Our clients have the opportunity to engage with a business which offers sustainable plant and equipment alternatives. And there is a rapidly growing number of new lower emissions or high efficiency options becoming available in Australia.
We’ve been transitioning the UGL light vehicle fleet to practical hybrid electric vehicles for new vehicles and end of lease replacements.
New vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux 48V models are a ‘mild hybrid’ meaning there is an electric motor assisting the petrol or diesel engine.
"UGL has a growing number of hybrid vehicles. We ordered approximately 120 in 2024," said UGL Fleet Coordinator, Justin Erasmus.
For our UGL drivers, this means there is:
• lowered emissions and fuel consumption – contributing to the reduction in our carbon footprint across our operations
• price parity with other vehicle options; and
• no impact on vehicle functionality or driver experience.
With more Australians interested in full hybrid electric passenger vehicles, UGL Project Engineer, Steven Aung has recently transitioned to a more efficient work vehicle.
“It is a great car to drive, especially suited for project managers or engineers who don’t need to carry bulky items or tow heavy loads,” said Steven.
The hybrid model is fuel efficient, with Steven only filling up once after driving 1,400 kilometres – the car using just 50 litres of fuel.
“Integrating hybrid electric vehicles into our fleet aligns with UGL’s operational, financial, and sustainability strategy and objectives” said UGL Corporate Supply Chain and Procurement Manager, Aleksandar Lazarevski. “We are tapping into sustainable supply chain options and hybrid electric vehicles are just one example of UGL’s proposition in providing clients sustainable solutions.”
