At UGL, we are committed to promoting a workplace culture that prioritises mental health and wellbeing.
We understand that both personal and work-related stress can have significant effects on daily coping and operational functioning.
To provide our employees with more support options, we established the UGL Peer Support Network, an initiative designed to offer immediate, informal, and compassionate assistance to our workforce.
Our peer supporters are trained workplace volunteers who support colleagues facing stress or personal challenges. Peer Supporters listen, recognise signs of distress, and guide colleagues to appropriate resources like the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or health professionals. Immediate and informal peer support fosters a stronger sense of community, reassurance, and practical guidance, ensuring no employee feels alone.
Each peer supporter undergoes a rigorous two-day training program before joining the network, equipping them with essential skills to support their colleagues effectively. Regular development days allow them to refine their skills, share insights, and collaborate with others in the network.
"As a peer supporter, I’ve been a sounding board for colleagues facing challenges. My role isn’t to decide for them but to provide a judgment-free space where they can express their feelings, gain acknowledgement, and discover potential solutions." Matthew Sharman, UGL Senior Recruitment Business Partner.
Our people champion a supportive workplace to build resilient and motivated teams. Our peer support network ensures employees feel valued and heard, promoting a culture of care that benefits everyone both personally and professionally.
