UGL has marked a significant construction milestone at Neoen Australia’s Western Downs Battery Stage 2 site near Chinchilla, Queensland. Together with Tesla and Neoen Australia, we have installed our 1000th Tesla Megapack across all five Neoen Megapack projects in Australia — a major milestone in our journey of delivering large-scale battery energy storage projects throughout the country.
Our support to Neoen Australia and collaboration with Tesla began with the installation of 212 Megapacks at the Victorian Big Battery and has since expanded to include Megapack installations at Collie Battery Stages 1 and 2, as well as Western Downs Battery Stages 1 and 2. Across these five major Neoen asset sites, UGL has helped lay the foundations for a more sustainable and reliable energy future.
The successful landing of the 1000th Megapack was made possible by the leadership of Project Manager Jack Connors and Construction Manager Matt Sultana, whose dedication continues to empower our teams to turn ambitious goals into reality.
The scale of work across these five projects has been truly remarkable. To date, we have moved nearly 180,000 cubic metres of earth — equivalent to more than 70 Olympic-sized swimming pools — and installed Megapacks weighing a total of 37,846,000 kilograms, surpassing the combined weight of 9,000 elephants!
Reflecting on the achievement, Jack Connors said:
“It is a fantastic accomplishment for the team from UGL and Tesla to have landed and installed 1000 Megapacks. Together with Neoen, we have achieved a remarkable feat — and we look forward to reaching 2,000 Megapacks in the future.”
This milestone highlights UGL’s role as a leader in energy storage solutions and underscores our commitment to enabling Australia’s renewable energy transition with our clients. We are proud of our people, our partners, and the progress we have made — and we are just getting started.
