The sun was shining as we celebrated 125 years of rich history.
More than 1000 employees, their families, and friends of UGL came together to celebrate on UGL’s oldest site, Broadmeadow in Newcastle, New South Wales, which began 125 years ago as Goninan.
Families enjoyed rides, miniature train tours of our workshops, facepainting, show bags, and more as our community came together for a memorable day.
For the first time this century, we also welcomed back an old friend, the Tangara, to site! Built at our Broadmeadow site between 1988 and 1995, the Tangara continues to service Sydney’s commuters to this day. Also on show was our new Australian designed and manufactured EVO locomotive and a classic C44.
UGL Executive General Manager for Transport, Ian Quarrie, said: “We are proud of our generational expertise, capability, and local heritage alongside the contribution we’ve made to the Newcastle community and economy for the past 125 years.
“It was wonderful to see a Tangara back in Broadmeadow and fantastic to have our current and past employees and their families celebrate Newcastle’s continued manufacturing and engineering expertise.”
The day kicked off an address from Ross Kerridge, Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Members of Parliament Sharon Claydon, Member for Newcastle, and Dan Repacholi, Member for Hunter, and UGL’s Executive General Manager, Transport, Ian Quarrie.
We’d like to thank our suppliers and clients who joined us on the day and helped make it possible.
We wouldn’t be a leader in many areas of our expertise without our people. We’re proud to be an employer of choice for communities across Australia, adding value to our employees by investing in them inside and outside of work.
