Construction and Commissioning

We build them big

Fuel and water storage will be vital for the proper operation of the Hunter Power Project (HPP) and our team is on target with the construction of four tanks on site. With approximate heights of 12m and diameters of 14m, these structures very much dwarf other buildings around – for the moment.

Three of the tanks are made of carbon steel. Two of them, at 75 tonnes each, will hold the back-up fuel to keep the turbines going when gas or hydrogen are not readily available. The third one, at 67 tonnes, will be a service water tank.

The fourth tank, with 59 tonnes of weight, is being constructed with stainless steel and will store demineralised water – not for human consumption, but essential for the energy generation process.

Each one of these four tanks will hold between 2.2 and 2.5 million litres – the approximate capacity of an Olympic pool.

With everything on track, it is expected that all the tanks will be ready in the next couple of months. Stay tuned!
