Many of us would have seen the footage of Cathy Freeman standing under the Olympic cauldron as water cascaded down, but not thought of how that water got there. Meet the UGL team creating potable water which has been servicing the Olympic Park area for more than two decades. From watering systems to fountains, and the Olympic cauldron, we treat the water so it can be reused.

It was the first water scheme to take wastewater, treat it, and give it to customers and is one of the reasons the Sydney 2000 Olympics were known as the ‘green games’ for sustainability.

Chris Weller has been working at the water treatment facility for nearly a decade and says, “Everything is captured and reused on-site, that’s all part of the green scheme.”
