Meet Natasya, a graduate mining engineer at our Melak Operations in Indonesia.
From the jungles of East Kalimantan in Indonesia to the rolling hills full of kangaroos in the Hunter Valley Australia, Natasya has seen it all.
Following in her family’s footsteps, Natasya was first introduced to mining by her father, who was a mechanical senior supervisor in the maintenance department.
From there, her love for mining grew, and every day, she aims to make her dad proud.
Recently visiting Australia for Thiess’ Rising Star Awards, Natasya made the most of this opportunity to expand her horizons visiting our Mount Pleasant and Mt Owen operations in New South Wales, Australia.
“I completed my last graduate rotation as a drill and blast engineer, so it was really great to see the different drill and blast practices being implemented in Australia, including through-seam blasting and autonomous drilling,” Natasya said.
“I was also interested to learn more about how Thiess interacts with its local communities and delivers social benefits through employment and training.”
To her friends, Natasya is also known as jungle girl when returning from her roster on-site at Melak in East Kalimantan. She loves the mining lifestyle, though.
“Mining has allowed me to build an incredibly rewarding career, and I still have a great sense of adventure. In my time off, I get to travel to many remote parts of my home in Indonesia and internationally.”
