Thiess’ Lake Vermont team recently achieved a significant milestone at our Queensland project, mining and processing more than 100 million feed tonnes of coal.
Lake Vermont Project Manager Jamie Vaughan praised his team’s ability to challenge and optimise to ensure the right strategies guide action at the project.
Optimised solutions
“We move materials, but we also move ideas, successes, learnings and expertise to benefit our delivery,” Jamie said.
“This milestone is reflective of our people, their disciplined execution and our strong working relationship with our client.”
Since commencing operations in 2008, our Lake Vermont team has expanded their scope to deliver end-to-end coal mining, topsoil removal, overburden removal, drill and blast and rehabilitation of final landforms.
The team also provides all mobile plant and equipment and operate and maintain the client’s Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP).
Global insight/local value
Lake Vermont CHPP Manager Ian Matheson said his team’s widespread knowledge and in-field experience across a range of commodities has enabled them to deliver holistic value, faster.
“I started with Thiess in 1996 and have gained a wealth of knowledge working across multiple projects, much like many of my colleagues,” Ian said.
“It’s the development and diversification opportunities that we’ve gained working at Thiess that helps us deliver certainty, and exceptional outcomes, for our client.”
Earlier this year, the CHPP team celebrated another significant milestone with more than 1000 days LTI (lost time injury) free.
“Our focus is everyone safe, every day,” Ian said.
“Total commitment from our people, and continual improvement and learning are all part of our safety-first culture. It’s what ensures our project’s stability.”
Our Lake Vermont team will recognise and celebrate their 100 million milestone with a morning tea on site next month.
