Thiess’ Gyarn Rawson loves fixing things.
Growing up on a small property, Gyarn says her passion for machine-driven repair work started from a young age.
“I’m one of four daughters and as long as I can remember my dad has owned his own trucks and transport company," Gyarn explains.
“I was always out in the shed helping him fix the trucks and cars or assisting with other odd jobs.”
A pit fitter at Thiess’ Mt Arthur Coal operation, Gyarn draws on her family experience in working with her team.
“Our team is exceptional in many ways. I think our biggest strength is being able to adapt to the conditions.
“We are still in the process of finishing off our main workshop, so it’s been a credit to everyone in our team to make the best of our situation and get the job done.”
Gyarn embodies Thiess’ strong safety culture ensuring everyone safe everyday. Her efforts to recognise a hazard and develop a hazard improvement plan were recognised with a safety award.
“Safety is our number one priority above all else.
“We are constantly reminded of safety in our daily tasks by completing frequent peer on peers, 60 seconds for safety updates and reviews at our toolbox talks.
“Being recognised for my contribution is one of my proudest achievements at Thiess.”
Outside work Gyarn swaps the tools for a footy, lining up as a forward for the Muswellbrook Cats.
“This year is my third year in the Cats ladies’ team. I really enjoy playing and it’s good socially, I play with a lot of friends.”
