We are pleased to share construction is now underway to build the Queensland Resources Common User Facility (QRCUF) at Cleveland Bay Industrial Park in Townsville, Queensland.
Our Sedgman and Sedgman Prudentia team have been progressing this project in collaboration with the Queensland Government. The innovative facility contains mineral processing, hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes dominant in many critical minerals processing facilities for the green energy transition.
We have played a leading role in many of Queensland’s resource projects over the past 45 years and the QRCUF will play a vital role in unlocking a new generation of mining and downstream processing projects for Queensland.
Once operational in late 2026, mining companies will be able to test their mineral processing techniques at the facility and progress samples to market, accelerating commercial development opportunities.
Queensland’s north-west minerals province is a significant global source of vanadium and critical minerals. The region has potential to become a leading producer and exporter of new-economy minerals. The Queensland Government is developing the QRCUF to trial production processes, enabling prospective miners to begin producing mineral samples at scale. The aim is to accelerate the development of commercial projects, promote investment in advanced mineral manufacturing opportunities, enable development of supply chain and supporting industries and position Queensland’s resources industry for long-term, sustainable growth over the next 30 years
The QRCUF contains a base set of processing equipment, designed to accommodate trials of a range of new economy minerals and rare earth elements, with the initial focus being vanadium. It is able to be adapted to accommodate different users’ processes and capable of future expansion. Vanadium provides huge potential for Queensland as global demand for vanadium in batteries and high-quality steel is expected to outpace supply in the coming years.
We are excited to continue working with the Queensland Government to deliver QRCUF and provide minerals in a sustainable way.
