Advancing hospital construction with drone technology

Leighton Asia is using drones to transform how we plan, monitor and manage construction works on a public hospital expansion project in Hong Kong.

How drone technology is reshaping construction:

  • Comprehensive progress tracking – Frequent drone flights capture 2D and 3D site models, enabling accurate progress comparisons over time.
  • BIM integration – Combining drone data with design models helps our teams to monitor logistics, structures and critical interfaces remotely.
  • Enhanced planning & safety – Visualising gridlines, service zones, and underground utilities improves accuracy, reduces risk and supports safe operations near an operating hospital.
  • Real-time collaboration – Cloud-based access empowers teams to make informed, data-driven decisions.

The hospital expansion project involves building a new 20-storey hospital block, refurbishing existing facilities, and upgrading infrastructure. Once complete, it will add around 1,500 beds, boosting healthcare capacity for the communities in Hong Kong.
