Spotlight on Leighton Asia Graduate Program: expanding horizons and growth through exchange opportunities

Leighton Asia invests in future leaders through a Graduate Program that offers technical training, hands-on project experiences, and a growth-oriented workplace.

Our Graduate Program includes exchange opportunities in the form of international assignments, placing graduates across our business units in Asia. This allows participants to gain international experience and contribute to important projects throughout the region.

Salsabila Assegaff, Graduate Engineer from Leighton Contractors Indonesia, has embraced work travel. After gaining first-hand experience on one of our data centre projects in Indonesia, she spent six productive months seconded to our data centre project in the Philippines.

Transferrable skills

With experience working on a single-storey data centre already under her belt, Salsabila was exposed to work on a six-storey concrete data centre. She had the chance to be part of a more complex project with colleagues from a different culture.

Leaning on her experience in the Indonesia data centre, Salsabila was able to apply her knowledge of seismic design, particularly mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) seismic supports and restraints for MEP equipment and hangers.

Her knowledge and skills contributed to the project’s overall achievements. She gained exposure to site coordination, working closely with colleagues with various backgrounds and expertise to resolve clashes between structural, MEP, and architectural aspects of the project.

Enriching experience and international exposure

Salsabila also gained knowledge in the Philippines building codes and common challenges throughout the construction phase. Salsabila says: “The exchange program enriched my experience with insights from Leighton Asia colleagues, joint venture partners and subcontractors on how projects are managed in different regions. It also deepened my understanding of the decision-making processes and on-site practicality.”

Mike Lacey, Leighton Asia Project Manager, said he was impressed by Salsabila’s outstanding performance: “The program significantly grew her technical ability, and confidence to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The lessons learnt and transferrable skills gained in the Philippines will be valuable for future Indonesian projects.”
