Small steps, big impact - ‘Leighton Goes to School’ program

Leighton Asia’s Indonesia team recently launched our inaugural ‘Leighton Goes to School’ program, which aims to improve education about sustainability among young school students.

The program’s launch, held at local school SD 01 Pasir Ranji, highlighted Leighton Asia’s commitment to sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch, Simon Burley, Leighton Indonesia Country Manager said: "This program aims to inspire students to practice sustainability in their daily lives, understand waste segregation, and see the positive impact it has on the community, which has a vital role in supporting sustainability."

Leighton Asia Project Manager, Richard Feeney, also highlighted the importance of community collaboration in advancing sustainability and reflected on our dedication to driving positive change through education and teamwork.

Education on healthy living and environmental awareness

At the heart of the event, our team engaged students in interactive learning sessions on maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Students participated in a handwashing session, following WHO standards, and learned the importance of waste segregation into organic, inorganic, and hazardous categories. This activity aimed to encourage positive habits that promote health and environmental sustainability from a young age.

Sustainable shared meal

A highlight of the event was a shared meal of healthy and nutritious food. The meal supported sustainable supply chains, being made from local ingredients. The creative presentation of the meal engaged the school students, emphasising that healthy living starts with the food they eat.

Interaction and inspiration

During an educational quiz session, students answered questions about waste segregation, handwashing, and other topics covered during the event.

Some students expressed interest in future careers in construction, demonstrating that the program not only fostered health and environmental awareness but also inspired the next generation to dream big.
