Our Women in Construction Series now focuses on Rose Ann Juanir, a Junior BIM Engineer who joined our 1DCS team in the Philippines in 2023. Her key responsibilities are to streamline the design, planning, construction and management processes of building and infrastructure projects.
This includes 3D modelling, visualisation, 4D sequencing and simulation, and collaboration with other professionals.
Leaning into construction’s creative side, Leighton Asia provides immense opportunities for her to explore technical innovations, together with mentors and colleagues who helped to build her skills and confidence as a woman in the construction sector.
What inspired you to join the industry?
As an architect by profession, joining the construction industry was rooted in my interest in visual design which eventually branched out into the more technical side – in being part of and witnessing the process of how a concept is turned into tangible reality with the use of the latest technology and innovations.
Describe your experience at Leighton Asia.
“Challenging,” “dynamic,” “fulfilling,” as it was quite overwhelming at the beginning, but I was fortunately surrounded by great mentors and coworkers who helped me build my knowledge and confidence.
What do you think about gender equality/diversity in the construction industry in the Philippines?
I think the construction industry has come a long way in terms of gender inclusivity as we can see more women taking leadership roles and being recognised for their efforts and contributions. At the same time, there is still a lot more that needs to be done.
What else do you think can be done to further drive gender equality/diversity in the construction industry in general or in the Philippines?
More women representation in leadership roles, more opportunities for upskilling and career advancement tailored for women and other underrepresented groups, education and awareness of the benefits of a gender inclusive workplace.
