The Warringah Freeway Upgrade, being delivered by the CPB Contractors and DT Infrastructure joint venture, has reached a key milestone with the completion and opening of the new southbound Falcon Street on-ramp, officially opened to traffic on 8 November.
Once fully complete, the new ramp will provide a dedicated lane for buses entering the freeway at Neutral Bay, helping separate bus and general traffic movements to improve flow and safety. The final southbound on-ramp is scheduled for completion in 2026.
The new bridge is a two-span structure, 101 metres long and up to 8.4 metres wide, supported by six prefabricated steel girders - each weighing up to 80 tonnes - topped with a concrete deck.
Incorporating community feedback, the project team also added a headlight glare screen on the eastern side of the ramp to reduce light impacts on nearby residents.
"It's always rewarding to see the tangible benefits of our work," said Project Director Steven Clarke. "This ramp will improve access for buses and motorists while showing how infrastructure can enhance the daily travel and community outcomes."
The on-ramp opening brings several new traffic arrangements for motorists, including the requirement for westbound traffic on Military Road to use the new eastern southbound on-ramp for access to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The Warringah Freeway Upgrade continues to make significant progress, improving one of Sydney’s busiest corridors.
