CPB Contractors, as part of the Spark North east Link Primary Package, is driving more than works on-site by creating lasting social and economic change with purposeful partnerships.
One standout example is the work being delivered by Karnaji, a First Nations-owned electrical material supply company. The Victorian business is delivering critical cabling that powers the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) tunnelling beneath Melbourne’s north-east.
Karnaji is part of the Yurringa Group, a collective of First Nations-owned commercial ventures that includes Yurringa Energy - Australia’s first Indigenous-owned renewable energy retailer. Through this partnership, Yurringa Energy is supplying 100% renewable energy to the North East Link TBMs, ensuring that our progress underground is powered sustainably.

Building a project with legacy
This collaboration is part of Spark's $115 million social procurement investment, aimed at empowering Indigenous businesses, supporting local economies, and delivering real, long-term benefits to the community. It reflects how major infrastructure projects can create more than transport connections - they can build capability, careers, and greater confidence within communities.
By working with partners like Karnaji and Yurringa, CPB Contractors is committed to delivering infrastructure that reflects the future we want to build - cleaner, fairer, and more inclusive.
North East Link is Victoria’s largest road project, and CPB Contractors is delivering the Primary Package as part of the Spark consortium. The project includes twin three-lane tunnels, new interchanges, local road upgrades, and improved walking and cycling connections - designed to reduce congestion and connect key growth areas across the city.
