CPB Contractors has achieved a 6-Star Green Star As-Built certification for Gadigal Station from the Green Building Council of Australia, exceeding the contractual requirement of 5 Stars and securing a World Leadership rating.
The station, delivered by CPB Contractors as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project, supported the project's wider social and ethical contribution, with key successes including:
- Enhancing local economic benefits - 33% of the construction team resided within 12 km of the site, supporting local employment and community engagement.
- Promoting supplier diversity - Approximately $24M was spent with Indigenous and Social Enterprise suppliers, contributing to inclusive economic participation.
- Responding to local social needs - Initiatives such as food drives, STEM site tours, volunteer programs, and aged care donations were aligned with the local council's wellbeing indicators
Completions Engineer Harshita Acharya led the certification process. She also led the cost disclosure process throughout the project's design and construction stages, consolidating precise and compliant information aligned with Green Star's financial transparency requirements. This open-book process promoted accountability and informed future sustainable delivery.
The Gadigal Metro Station sets a benchmark for integrated sustainability in transport infrastructure, combining environmental, social and economic outcomes. The station now stands as a high-performing, community-connected asset, delivering long-term value for Sydney’s future.
Note: The 6 Star Green Star rating in Australia signifies world leadership in sustainable building practices. This rating is awarded to buildings that demonstrate a high level of sustainability in their design, construction and operation.
