Super T Beams are being placed for the new tram overpass above Marion Road and Cross Road, Plympton, marking significant progress in the Tram Grade Separation Projects.
Transforming one of Adelaide’s busiest intersections, these works are improving safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing travel reliability for thousands of South Australians.
The installation of the overpass beams showcases the scale and complexity of the work underway:
- Each beam weighs approximately 90 tonnes
 - A total of 52 Super T precast bridge beams will be installed
 - The overpass will span 700 metres, supported by 24 columns
 - Beams are lifted using high-capacity mobile cranes, operating with precision in tight urban conditions
 - The broader construction effort includes 6,900 cubic metres of concrete and 1,255 tonnes of reinforcing steel

This achievement reflects our construction team's commitment to delivering complex infrastructure with precision and reliability, supporting safer, faster journeys for South Australians.
The scope of work for the Tram Grade Separation Projects includes works at three main locations along the Glenelg Tram Line, works along the tram corridor, modifications of the existing tram overpass at South Road, replacement of the level crossings at Marion Road, Cross Road and Morphett Road with tram overpasses, intersection upgrades, tram depot upgrades at Glengowrie, and a temporary tram maintenance depot on Peacock Road on the edge of the CBD. It will also comprise the installation of signalling upgrades along the tram corridor and the creation of new public spaces for the local communities.
The projects are being delivered by the Tram Grade Separation Projects Alliance comprising CPB Contractors, McConnell Dowell, Mott MacDonald, Arup, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, and sub-Alliance partner, Aurecon.
