Team members from CPB Contractors projects in South Australia participated in a working bee providing much-needed upgrades at Tauondi Aboriginal College in Port Adelaide. Led by CPB Contractors Superintendent Edwin Davey, the team included several graduates from a project-based Indigenous Training Program, making the day’s work even more meaningful and rewarding for the group.
Tauondi Aboriginal College has played a key role in the Port Adelaide community for over fifty years, leading the way in delivering adult education, vocational training and other community programs. Additionally, its facilities play an important role as a meeting place for organisations, government and industry.
The working bee focused on breathing new life into the college's cultural ground and other social spaces on the campus, providing students and community members with engaging places to come together, learn their practices and connect. While on-site, the team also upgraded pathways and installed new main entrance signage and bollards at the college’s entrance to provide greater security, safety and visibility.
Once work was complete, CPB Contractors team members joined college staff and representatives from Acciona Australia at the newly revitalised cultural ground to celebrate the moment with a Welcome to Country by Mark Catanzariti and a yarning circle led by Vicki Hartman, followed by afternoon tea prepared by the college’s catering team.
Tauondi Aboriginal College Cultural Services Officer Vicki Hartman said, “We are a place for community, and the community loves to come to all our cultural events, to visit and connect and learn with each other. So, to have some new places where they can come and sit together and more places to reflect and gel after a hard days of training, particularly after Covid, is amazing. We thank everyone who has been a part of today, and we look forward to growing the partnership.”
