CPB Contractors has completed all beam installations for the Hyde St Ramps as part of the West Gate Tunnel project. Delivery of these works involved the precise installation of 180+ Super-T Beams, 30+ planks and two portal frames along the banks of a creek and over live roads.
“Our CPB Contractors team safely installed the last beams on Bridge 30; this milestone is a culmination of 20 months of sensational teamwork to install more than 15,000 tonnes of precast elements,” said Gavan Williams, CPB Contractors Project Director.
Once opened, the Hyde St Ramps will provide better access for heavy vehicles and trucks to industrial areas that can’t travel in the tunnels.
CPB Contractors is delivering Bridge 30 in a JV as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project. Design and construction works on the project include:
- Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
- A 2.8km eastbound tunnel and 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
- A new bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge; and
- An elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne, CityLink and the city’s north, and major new cycling and pedestrian paths.
