Jessica Leach, a CPB Contractors Project Manager has been selected as a 2023 Roads Australia Fellow.
The Roads Australia Fellowship is a career development program that provides opportunities and encouragement for the next generation to develop leadership skills, build strong networks and stay engaged in the industry.
With more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Jess has worked across a range of major road, rail and water projects in Victoria and has developed a special interest in road safety and transport reform.
“Working in road infrastructure affords me the opportunity to see the project come to life. I find it personally very rewarding to see a completed project and know I was part of the team that worked on it. I know that the community will get benefits from our projects for years to come and that we’ve made a contribution to the growth of Australia.”
Jess is confident that participation in the Fellowship Program will help develop her career.
“I hope to broaden my industry connections and provide an example for future engineers on how they can progress in a traditional on-site career in a less than traditional way. For example, encouraging parents who want to work part-time the opportunity to still hold meaningful site roles. As a junior engineer I always thought I would have to change my career path when I decided to start a family. With support from senior leaders within CPB Contractors, I’ve realised this in not the case.
“I’ll be able to share advice and ideas on how we can encourage more women into the industry and what the biggest challenges and barriers are for women wanting both children and a rewarding successful career in construction.”
