Construction on track

CPB Contractors has completed the construction of track in the twin 15.5 kilometre tunnels of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest, with tracklaying through the seven underground stations underway.

The final concrete pour of 60 metres of track in the tunnels between Chatswood and Marrickville, in late April in the northbound tunnel from Central Station, at Pitt Street Station.

Over 40,000 cubic metres of concrete - enough to fill over 16 Olympic swimming pools – is being used to embed about 45,000 sleepers, supporting 62 kilometres of Australian steel rails with a combined weight of about 4,000 tonnes.

CPB Contractors' Sydney Metro City & Southwest Line-wide Works team can now progress with the completion of tracklaying through the seven underground stations and the installation of the mechanical and electrical systems needed to operate the driverless metro trains.

The 31 kilometre railway, from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour and the CBD and beyond to Bankstown in the Southwest, is being jointly delivered by CIMIC Group companies CPB Contractors and UGL Limited.

All Sydney Metro City & Southwest track construction is expected to be completed later this year.
