Brisbane’s New Parallel Runway was officially opened last month with the first flight departing Brisbane for Cairns on July 12.
Delivered with BMD Constructions for Brisbane Airport Corporation, the project included construction of a 3.3km long 60m wide runway, a 12km taxiway system, lighting, utilities, signage and 300 hectares of landscaping.
Official opening festivities included a ribbon cutting and aerobatics display.
The project was also recently named as a finalist in the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Earth Awards which recognise excellence in project delivery including construction management, innovation, environmental and social management, as well as the Engineers Australia Awards which celebrate outstanding achievement in engineering and the invaluable contribution engineering makes to the economy, community and the environment.
