CPB Contractors launches first Reconciliation Action Plan

Connecting communities through Respect, Opportunity and Relationships

Our projects create opportunities for the people and regions in which we work and CPB Contractors has had a decades-long commitment to ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples benefit through relationships with our company.

CPB Contractors strengthened this commitment with the release on 26 June of the company’s first Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2021 (RAP). Developed in close discussion with Reconciliation Australia, the publicly available plan outlines key deliverables to help support reconciliation.

Speaking to special guests, key clients, Indigenous suppliers and employees at the launch event in Sydney, CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria and said that the company’s first RAP was a reflection of its culture and the work to help transform communities through enduring relationships with indigenous employees and businesses.

“It is our responsibility to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples continue to share in, and benefit from the training, employment and business opportunities CPB Contractors’ projects provide,” he said. 

“While our work contributes to the building of Australia for future generations, we must acknowledge the past and it is with passion and purpose that we drive unity and equality in all that we do, creating a stronger company culture where everyone contributes to understanding, trust and respect.”

The CPB Contractors RAP will be delivered over three years and further supports our Indigenous and Social Inclusion strategy, launched in late 2018.

Story of CPB Contractors’ Indigenous Australian artwork

The artwork was created by Jordan Lovegrove, a young Ngarrindjeri man who combines his illustration skills with an intimate knowledge of Aboriginal communities to develop online and print Indigenous art.

His work shows CPB Contractors, represented as the large tree, creating meaningful and sustainable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples represented by the dot patterns. Our relationships with project partners, clients and communities are depicted by meeting places and paths.

The four areas under the tree branches represent our principles – Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery – with a large patterned circle to represent safety, enclosing the tree to signify that it underpins everything we do.

Through our Indigenous and Social Inclusion Strategy, we are committed to supporting people’s aspirations and those experiencing disadvantage with access to employment, training and business opportunities.

Our Indigenous and Social Inclusion Strategy includes:

  • Partnerships with non-profit social enterprises such as CareerTrackers and CareerSeekers to provide internships for Indigenous people and refugees.
  • The enablement of Indigenous businesses and social enterprises to subcontract at our projects through partnerships with groups including Supply Nation and Social Traders.
