Sustainable solutions

  • Cross River Rail Tunnel, Station and Development (TSD) works package won the sustainability category at the Queensland Major Contractors Association 2021 Innovation and Excellence Awards. The award recognised CPB Contractors and UGL with their Design and Construct (D&C) joint venture partners, and Pacific Partnerships as the lead party in the Public Private Partnership’s ProjectCo team. Awarded in early 2022.
  • Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project won the 2022 Infrastructure Excellence Award at the Australasian Railway Association Industry Awards.
  • Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre project won the Master Builders Civic Project Award at the 2022 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards.
  • Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation works won the 2022 Australian Construction Achievement Award presented by the Australian Constructors Association and Engineers Australia.
  • Brisbane Airport New Parallel Runway Airfield works won Project of the Year at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia 2021 National Infrastructure Awards.
  • Essential works at the Paradise Dam won both Project of the Year (<$100m) and the Design, Innovation and Digital Engineering Award at the Queensland Major Contractors Association 2021 Innovation and Excellence Awards. Awarded in early 2022.
  • Brisbane South State Secondary College project won the Professional Excellence Award for Commercial Construction (<$60 million) at the 2022 Professional Excellence in Building Awards hosted by the Queensland chapter of the Australian Institute of Building.
  • Casuarina Prison Expansion project received a National High Commendation Award for Commercial Construction (<$60 million plus) at the AIB’s 2022 National Professional Excellence Awards
  • Inglewood Shopping Centre project won the Best Retail Building (<$20 million) category at the West Australian Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards.
  • Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point project in Hong Kong received an Outstanding Infrastructure Project Award from Build4Asia
  • Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point project was awarded the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s Green Building Merit Award in the New Building Category: Completed projects.
  • Sedgman received the Metals and Mining Review’s Top 10 Canada Mining Services Companies 2022 Award. The award recognises companies for being at the forefront of providing mining services and transforming businesses in Canada.

Environment

  • Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port-Passenger Clearance Building project was awarded the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s Building Environmental Assessment Method Platinum Plus rating.
  • Black Point Power Station Additional Gas-Fired Generation Unit D1 – Civil Works project was awarded the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s Building Environmental Assessment Method Platinum Plus rating.
  • Leighton Asia was awarded a Merit Certification at the CLP Smart Energy Awards hosted by CLP, and an Environmental Merit Award from the HKCA.

Social - Safety

WestGate Tunnel and M80 projects, in Melbourne, won three awards for innovative safety methods at the Victorian Government’s Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (MTIA) 2022 Health and Safety Awards.

  • Program Wide Award for a jackhammer dust suppression unit
  • Delivery Award for working safely at height using a mobile platform
  • MTIA’s Director General’s Health and Safety Innovation Award for the use of an automated cone truck.
  • Boardwalk project received a Proactive Safety Contractor Award from the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA).
  • Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) project received a Silver Prize for Civil Engineering Sites from the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC).
  • TKO-LTT project received a Safety Award from the Hong Kong OSHC for Outstanding Performance in Lifting.
  • TKO-LTT project received a Safety Award from the Hong Kong OSHC for Outstanding Performance in Work-at-height.
  • North-South Corridor N103 project was awarded a Certificate of Excellence from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority at the 24th Annual Safety, Health and Environmental Award Convention.
  • Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) Phase 2 - Contract T-09 and North-South Transportation Corridor N103 projects in Singapore received a Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects Award.
  • DTSS Phase 2 - Contract T-09 and North-South Transportation Corridor N103 projects in Singapore were recognised with a Gold Award at the 2022 Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents Awards.
  • Leighton Asia received a Silver Award from the Singapore Workplace Safety and Health Council at the annual Workplace Safety and Health Performance Awards.
  • Hermen Leung, Superintendent of the Boardwalk project in Hong Kong was awarded the HKCA Individual Safety Supervisor Award.
  • Colman Wong, General Manager – Hong Kong, was awarded the HKCA Individual Safety Person-in-Charge Award.

Social - People and community

  • Cross River Rail TSD project won an Award of Merit for community relations at the International Association of Business Communicators 2022 Gold Quill Awards, recognising CPB Contractors and UGL with their D&C joint venture partners, and ProjectCo lead Pacific Partnerships.
  • Jessica Leach, Project Manager, was selected as a 2023 Roads Australia Fellow, a career development program that provides opportunities for the next generation to develop leadership skills, build strong networks and stay engaged in the industry.
  • Yasmine Edlin received the Emerging Leader Award and the Award for Achievement in Construction (Civil Works) at the 2022 National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Queensland Awards.
  • Conrad Powers, Broad Graduate, Construction Management, won the New Rising Star Award at the Master Builders Association Apprentice of the Year Awards 2022.
  • Cameron Kirkwood, Broad Operations Manager, was admitted at the grade of Fellow by the National Council of the Australian Institute of Building.
  • Leighton Asia received a Merit Award in the Joyful@ Healthy Workplace Best Practices Awards presented by the Hong Kong OSHC.
  • Leighton Asia was recognised as an Outstanding Employer for Training - Intermediate Tradesman Collaborative Training Scheme by the Construction Industry Council and the Hong Kong Institute of Construction.

  • Cross River Rail TSD project was awarded the Excellence in Social Outcomes Award by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council. The award recognised CPB Contractors and UGL with their D&C joint venture partners, and ProjectCo lead Pacific Partnerships, for innovative training initiatives to support project delivery and drive industry firsts for Queensland and Australia.
  • Ronald Jones, UGL Aboriginal Engagement Manager received the award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Indigenous Advocacy, at the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure and Construction Forum Awards.
  • Byron Matheson, UGL Mechanical Fitter Apprentice received the award for Indigenous Apprentice of the Year at the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure and Construction Forum Awards.
  • Brandon Houghton, UGL Electrical Apprentice was a finalist in the Indigenous Apprentice of the Year category, recognised at the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure and Construction Forum Awards.
