Sedgman had a long association with McArthur River Operations at the lead/ zinc mine located at Borroloola, Northern Territory, having completed a number of minor contracts in the early stages of mine construction.

In September 2001, Sedgman was awarded the contract to supply and operate a crushing and screening facility capable of processing at up to 2.5Mt/a of ore to P80 12mm - 14mm and P100 30mm.

Further extensions to this contract were awarded and production increased to 210,000 t/m through to 2014 ending 13 years continuous supply of services to the site.

The scope of works included the following:

  • delivery of fit-for-purpose plant with high priority set for quick delivery
  • cost-effective solutions
  • operations management
  • safe production of ore

Sedgman undertook the fine crushing up to 235,000 t/m of open pit lead / zinc ore. Under the contract, Sedgman owned, operated and maintained the three-stage crushing facility delivering ore to the client’s stockpile conveyor supported by a mobile fleet of Caterpillar 988 loaders.

The crushing plant consists of a primary jaw crusher which can take and crush rock up to 850mm in size. This product is then size selected over a number of screens and further crushed by two cone crushers until the size is reduced to a (P80 of 12mm) at around 380t/h.
