Jimblebar Iron Ore Project

In September 2015, the Sedgman Civmec joint venture was successful in securing a $145 million engineering, procurement construction and commissioning (EPC) contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore (BHPBIO) at their Jimblebar iron ore mine.

SCOPE OF WORKS

The contract was for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and commissioning works for the upgrade to the existing iron ore materials handling circuit at the Jimblebar iron ore mine in the Pilbara region, Western Australia.

The scope included the following:

• Installation of a run-of-mine (ROM)
• Primary crusher
• Transfer station
• Surge bin and 6.2km overland conveyor linking the crusher to the existing downstream stockpile and downstream circuit.

The nameplate capacity of the installation is 30Mt/a process ROM ore from the surrounding Jimblebar ore bodies.

OUTCOMES

A modular design was employed to reduce site installation time with over 2,500 tonnes of complex, pre-assembled, modular steelwork transported from the fabricator in China to the mine site, completing the project safely, on time and budget.

The tie-in works to the existing facility will occur over a series of planned maintenance shutdowns to minimise the disruption on the existing operations.
