An upgraded road network to support future growth
CPB Contractors worked with the Victorian Government to deliver the Western Highway Duplication Section 2B, as part of a 50:50 joint venture.
The design and construct contract has generated revenue of approximately $42 million for CPB Contractors.
Construction commenced in early 2018 and concluded mid-2020.
We were pleased to develop and deliver these public transport and community benefits, including maximising participation opportunities for Victorian workers and businesses.
The joint venture with Seymour Whyte Constructions undertook works on the 12.5km section between Buangor and Ararat to deliver:
- An upgrade to two lanes in each direction, with additional turning lanes;
- A new bridge over the railway line;
- Two new bridges over Hopkins River; and
- An interchange at Hillside Road, with entry and exit ramps.
As the principal road link between Melbourne and Adelaide, the Western Highway serves interstate trade between Victoria and South Australia.
With traffic expected to increase in the future, the Australian and Victorian governments committed over half a billion dollars to upgrade the Western Highway through various stages of works which were completed by 2020.
