Constructing unity in National Reconciliation Week

At the UGL Hunter Power Project (HPP), when we come together, we do it as one.

Our HPP team was part of a larger group of more than 200 workers who came together on site for the celebration of National Reconciliation Week, which this year carries the theme “Be a Voice for Generations”.

The team received the visit of Aboriginal representatives Aunty Cheryl Smith and Randal Briggs. Aunty Cheryl performed a Welcome to Country, sharing her life experience and encouraging a sense of unity for all.

The Welcome to Country was followed by the participation of our colleagues in a Smoking Ceremony performed by Randall, who used leaves from trees in the project’s surrounding area, adding to the significance and reverence of the event.

The event had a great ending, with everyone’s participation in the HPP monthly site BBQ, facilitated by UGL HPP’s HSE team.

The whole team was delighted to have the opportunity to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
