CPB Contractors’ Western Australia team has been recognised as Training Employer of the Year at the 2023 Civil Construction Federation’s (CCF) Industry and Training Awards.
Taking home this coveted industry award is a formal acknowledgement of the exceptional training and professional development opportunities provided by CPB Contractors’ construction projects.
Receipt of this award further demonstrates the continued commitment by CPB Contractors to build the skilled workforce of tomorrow and a sustainable future for the industry.
“Providing opportunities for new entrants to the construction industry and considered training programs for our people, enables our projects to deliver consistent, quality solutions for our clients and communities where we work”, said Andrew Giammo, CPB Contractors General Manager WA, SA and NT.
Over the past 12 months, the Western Australian team has rolled out multiple up-skilling programs for industry newcomers and staff alike, including:
Priority Start Traineeship program
Developed in response to the State Government’s Priority Start Policy and to meet the State Government’s Plan for Jobs commitment, this program focuses on maximising training and career opportunities for apprentices and trainees in construction.
Through this program, CPB Contractors has exceeded the State Government’s requirement of 11.5%, with trainees and apprentices accounting for 12.5% of the Western Australian business unit's total workforce.
Infrastructure Ready Skillset program
Spearheaded by the Western Australian State Government, CPB Contractors WA BU is working alongside TAFE WA to develop the skills needed to work safely and productively on construction sites.
Over the past 12 months, 19 trainees have completed work experience on CPB Contractors’ projects, with seven of those also offered full-time employment as part of the program.
Project Fundamentals training program
Project Fundamentals Program is a nine-part course series of CPB Contractors designed courses. It provides future project leaders with the knowledge and tools required to deliver projects to the renowned CPB Contractors standard. In 2022,150 Western Australian CPB Contractors engineers took part in this exclusive training program.
Leadership development programs
Seventy-five future and current CPB Contractors leaders based in Western Australian participated in two development programs over the past year.
Program One focused on enhancing safety leadership skills, and the second development program supported practical leadership skills.
CPB Contractors has been delivering road, rail, tunnelling, defence and resource projects across Western Australia for more than 50 years.
