In a successful collaboration with the General STEM Community Partnership, CPB Contractors hosted a work experience program for six high school students from various schools across Western Sydney. The program took place at the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport, Station Boxes and Tunnelling (SBT) Works, immersing the students in the world of construction.

To kick-start their week, the students donned full personal protective equipment (PPE) and participated in a comprehensive site induction just as any other construction worker on a project would, setting the stage for an authentic experience.

Throughout the program, the students learnt from various teams on the project, including traffic management, environmental specialists, engineers, plant and equipment professionals, site administrators, community and communications experts, planning and quality teams, as well as workplace health and safety specialists.

Hands-on activities were an integral part of the program, allowing the students to witness construction professionals in action and expand their knowledge base. These activities included:

  • Resuscitation skills: CPB Contractors' Return to Work and Wellbeing Advisor, Jessica Knight, demonstrated the usage of defibrillators and taught life-saving CPR skills to the students.
  • Safe work practices: Equipped with anti-dust protection suits, the students learned about their importance, when they are necessary, and how they keep you safe.
  • First aid: The students observed a demonstration of the proper treatment of minor injuries and had the opportunity to practice these techniques on one another.

CPB Contractors is delivering the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport, Station Boxes and Tunnelling Works for the NSW Government in a joint venture.

The project involves the design and construction of 9.8 kilometres of twin tunnels and excavations for stations at St Marys, Orchard Hills, Airport Terminal Station, Aerotropolis Station, Airport Business Park Station and service facilities at Bringelly and Claremont Meadows.
