CPB Contractors’ Western Sydney Airport Major Earthworks project has been recognised internationally for environmental excellence at this years’ International Erosion Control Associations (IECA) conference.
Considered the international association’s leading award, CPB Contractors received the "International Environmental Excellence Award" alongside joint venture partner Acciona.
Receipt of this award recognises the efforts of CPB Contractors in addressing the environmental limitations of the project, with particular emphasis on the large-scale erosion and sedimentation controls and procedures.
The Western Sydney Airport earthworks required industry-leading management of multiple environmental challenges, mainly related to the scale of the project, the surface area, and the volume of material.
Central to this achievement was CPB Contractors’ development and implementation of innovative and dynamic tools and processes to manage the unique requirements effectively.
For example, the project successfully introduced a monthly mapping survey of the sediment basin and developed volume reports from aerial surveys.
