Boikarabelo project

The Boikarabelo coal project will develop an open pit mining operation and a Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) which will produce 3 Mt/a of thermal coal for the export market and a further 3 Mt/a of thermal coal for the domestic market at typical Eskom energy-based specifications of 19.5 Mj/kg.

The scope for the Boikarabelo coal project includes the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 2100 t/h Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) comprising of a ROM receival system, sizing station, transfer station to facilitate direct feeding the CPP via a 500 t surge bin or stockpile onto a 150,000 t raw coal stockpile for blended reclaim into the surge bin. Coal will be processed through a two-stage plant with dedicated product and reject handling systems, rejects filter building and 700 t rejects bin, export and domestic product stacking with a product reclaim and TLO system consisting of 4 reclaim points and a nominal 3360 t/h reclaim conveyor to a 300 t controlled flood loading TLO bin system.
