Southern Corridor Improvements (SCI) project

CPB Contractors worked with the NZ Transport Agency (the Transport Agency) to design and construct the Southern Corridor Improvements (SCI) project on State Highway 1 (SH1) in Auckland, New Zealand.

The SCI project targeted a critical link in New Zealand’s transport network to serve a growing population and support economic growth.

Improving safety, traffic flow and access to the motorway, the SCI project has provided additional lanes on the Southern Motorway between Auckland’s growth areas of Manukau and Papakura, and upgraded the Takanini Interchange.

Key features of the project included:

  • Constructing approximately 11km of additional lanes;
  • The upgrade of 16 existing bridges; and
  • The construction of 6 new bridges.

The project was completed in 2020 and was constructed and opened in stages to release early benefits for freight carriers, commuters and local communities.

Our team has been operating in New Zealand for more than a decade and is a trusted and dynamic partner in delivering some of the country’s most complex infrastructure projects.
