We are pleased to announce our 2019 CIMIC Group Graduate of the Year award winners are Simon Diviny, CPB Contractors and Long Dinh, Thiess for excellence in engineering and Brittany Bell, CPB Contractors for excellence in a functional discipline (Human Resources).

The winners were announced by CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright and CIMIC Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ignacio Segura at our graduate program graduation event. The event celebrated the accomplishments of the 224 graduates who joined our award winning program in 2018.

Over their two-year program, this group has gained exposure to a global organisation, worked across our operating companies in multiple industries, and, leveraging the support of the technical experts and mentors around them, are now well-equipped to transition into the next phase of their career journey with CIMIC Group. We wish them well in their future.

Our 13 Graduate of the Year finalists were selected for their leadership and commitment to learning, building their professional experiences, delivering outstanding outcomes and living our Principles.

Simon Diviny, Graduate Engineer, holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Infrastructure) with 1st Class Honours.

In his design and delivery roles with CPB Contractors and EIC Activities Simon has worked in the water and transport infrastructure sectors, applying and proactively building his engineering, construction and technical capabilities.

Taking full ownership and responsibility for tasks assigned to him, Simon successfully influenced safety, technical solutions and project outcomes on the Daylighting Dandenong Creek project and the Rail Infrastructure Alliance in Victoria, and the Hung Hom Station Project in Hong Kong.

Simon demonstrates outstanding safety leadership and has a great understanding of: design input requirements, managing safety and constructability in design and utilising digital engineering and new technologies. Simon collaborates effectively with site teams and specialists, and delivers pragmatic and appropriate solutions to complex challenges.

The award judges commended Simon’s commitment to our Principles and ongoing learning – citing he is currently undertaking a Diploma of Project Management and actively engaged with Engineers Australia.

Long Dinh

Long Dinh, GIS & Spatial Systems Specialist, holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Geotechnical) and a Master of Geographic Information Science.

As a high performing graduate, Long has been an exceptional member of Thiess’ Technical Resources – Geographic Information System team and the Strategy and Growth – Innovation and Technology team.

Long clearly embraces working with a global organisation. During the graduate program, he has made an exceptional contribution to Thiess’s Australian and international operations, and to other CIMIC Group operating companies.

Key achievements have included: delivering an innovative location analytics tool for light vehicle fleet management, and web and mobile applications which provides live monitoring of haul road conditions.

Long developed code enabling modelling of high-precision GPS haul activities, and an automated vegetation performance assessment algorithm which can be applied to measure the performance and safety of existing mine rehabilitation programs.

The award judges praised Long’s commitment to living our Principles, using his expertise to deliver innovations with measurable benefits to site operations and the company, and for generously sharing his knowledge, expanding the capabilities of other teams and regions.

Brittany Bell, Human Resources Graduate, holds a Bachelor of Psychology, with a sub major in Education Studies.

Brittany has made an outstanding contribution to project delivery and workplace culture through her roles with CPB Contractors in Human Resources and Employee Relations on three of Sydney’s major transport infrastructure projects: Sydney Metro TSE Works, WestConnex M4 East and the Rozelle Interchange projects.

Brittany’s key achievements include: implementing the M4 East project’s reward and recognition program and helping to engineer the project’s highly successful demobilisation and redeployment system.

Brittany also made a difference to her workplaces by delivering Equal Employment Opportunity training, coordinating pre-employment programs for disadvantaged minorities, and championing mental health by organising Mates in Construction and R U OK? Day events, and access to mental health webinars.

The award judges commended Brittany for working in accordance with our Principles, and expanding her understanding of the business and site requirements by: proactively upskilling in enterprise bargaining agreement interpretation and the end-to-end payroll process, and attending pre-starts and toolbox talks to build positive working relationships with site superintendents and field staff.
